PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Happy Valentine’s Day  from Bonnie Keen

I am hoping you enjoyed January’s speaker.

February is our Sit and Stitch.  Mary Seymore has made enough kits for everyone to be very busy.  I hope everyone is planning to come to work on our Safe House Quilts.

Lee Collins needs a helper for the Blotto Blocks.  They are published quarterly, so if you are interested contact her.

Our new WEBMASTER is Shelly Poole, she will be working with Carin learning how to update the Guild’s web pages.

Renee Lee and Anna Palmer have volunteered to purchase prizes for future Special Events.

February 25 - Sit n Stitch
                   by Anne Wohlfeil

This month our meeting will be a sit-n-stitch.  There will be easy kits for making tops for Safe House quilts.  If you want to participate, we need people to sew, iron, and cut.  Everything is easy straight lines.

Sewers - bring a machine, any color thread, scissors, and extension cords.

Ironers - bring an iron, ironing mat, and extension cords.

Cutters - bring a rotary cutter, cutting mat, 12-1/2" square ruler

If you prefer, bring your own project to work on, magazines/books to browse, or just sit and talk.  It should be a fun, productive evening.

Linda Knop’s Trunk Show Highlights

Linda Knop gave a lively and delightful trunk show highlighting her years of exploring fiber art to “save her sanity.”  She has worked in all mediums including fusible, stain glass projects, thread painting, family tributes, beads and embellishment to mention just a few.   Her wry sense of humor had everyone in stitches.   Linda said, that she attends the I, for Fiber Art Group. This group is open to anyone who would like to explore fiber art.

Cranston Ends USA production:

Dayna Hughes sent me this link for information about the shutdown of Cranston’s USA manufacturing.  She thought this article was interesting since a representative from Cranston visited our guild a while back.

The oldest textile mill in the country has succumbed to the economy and the global forces on trade! Now, all of the fabric will be printed overseas!

UFO Challenge sign up

Shelley Poole  …. Keeper of the Lists

Once again it is time to sign up your UFOs to see how many quilts YOU can complete this coming year.  In order to qualify for the December’s Christmas Party Drawing, you must show your UFO at the February or March Show and Tell.  You should declare the project as one you plan to complete.   A list should be written up listing all the UFOs you want to enter.  Each project should be described with enough detail it would be recognized.

For the rest of the year you should finish your projects then bring them to SHOW AND TELL.  Be sure to get your UFO marked off your list.  For each project completed you get a CHANCE entered in the Christmas party drawing.  A nice prize will be awarded.  And yes, you can roll over your UFO list from last year.
