Linda Thielfoldt, Speaker for January 27th: http://www.thequiltedgoose.com/Photo_Gallery/Lindathielfoldtgallery.html
Linda learned to sew early on and made her first skirt at age 9. She has been quilting for over 25 years and brings a wealth of experience to her audience. She has won many blue ribbons at national shows (including Paducah in 2007) for her machine quilting artistry and wearable art and her machine quilting skills are in demand by quilters from all over the United States. She has been teaching quilting for over 12 years. Her offered classes include beginner traditional piecing, machine applique, color theory, paper piecing, home and long arm quilting, quilted garment instructions to fit any “BODY” and art quilting projects.
Linda should be a good fit for our guild as in her gallery she has several quilts featuring UGLY FABRIC, just to prove you can make a beautiful quilt with “ugly fabric.”
We will be meeting at Lucky’s at 4:30 pm before the meeting, come and meet Linda.

Newsletter Reminder…. For all members who are receiving the newsletter via email please add davisoneveningstarquiltguild@gmail.com to your address book. This will prevent the newsletter from being bumped into your spam folder and being deleted.
Announcement for the newsletter are due by the second weekend of the month. That is when I finalize the newsletter’s articles and format. We plan to have the newsletter sent 7 to 10 days prior to the meeting; hopefully this will serve as enticement and reminder to attend the meetings. The guild has some great speakers and fun programs lined up.
I am hoping to add some new articles and features to the newsletter. One article I will be writing is a greeting to new members. I would also like to interviews with some of the long standing members of the guild in an effort to get to know more members. I want to continue to write an interview article for our monthly speaker. This will be done time permits.
Occasionally I will be posting a mystery block pattern with directions for making the blocks (space permitting.) Thank you, Anna Palmer Newsletter editor

Charity Quilt Groups: While looking for my UGLY fabric for the upcoming challenge I came across a lot of fabric I purchased early in my quilting endeavors, before I knew what I was doing. This is not to say I know how to quilt, I am still learning, but it does say that I did not know anything about quality fabric when I first started quilting. I have a lot of fabric no longer my style, or color or matching other fabrics. I have tons of less than “heirloom quality fabric.”
If you find yourself in the same predicament now is a good time to sort through and clean out your stash. Consider donating the fabric to charity quilt groups, local schools. Our own guild hosts a charity sewing session and will be needing fabrics to make up kits. If you know of any other quilting groups looking for fabric let me know so I can pass on the information.
1. Mary Seymour ….. Mary organizes the fabric kits for the guild’s Safe House Quilts this November, 2010. Contact Mary through the guild.
2. Sandy Montague … (742 – 8814) (742- 8008) Monday Charity Quilters. Sandy said she is down to her last tub of fabric and could really use some donations...... Contact Sandy through the guild.
3. Leslie Kirkpatrick … Wounded Troop Quilts ..... Contact Leslie through the guild.
Membership: We have 91 paid members. Mary would like all dues and renewals completed by January 10th so that she can start working on the membership book. If you have not completed your forms and/or paid your dues, see Martha Winn or Mary Seymour at the membership table at the January meeting. Those members who have not paid might not be getting the newsletter from this point on.

Make New Friends but Keep the Old….
This old girl scout motto reinforces why many of us join the guild. We have lots of family and friends but we often wish to meet people with shared interests. With that in mind I am starting a new feature for the newsletter. I will be contacting several members each month and interviewing them about their quilting. (Names are selected at random by drawing.) I will also try to interview the new members who are joining our guild. I hope this will promote new friendships among our guild community.
Meet Suzie Berberich http://www.bluemoonquilts.net/ Web Page http://www.blog.bluemoonquilts.net/ Blog Page
No Suzie was not randomly selected, I figured since she made the 2010 raffle quilt she would be my first interview. She deserves it. Suzie said she loved fabric since she was a child. She use to hand stitch doll clothes and recycle clothing into new projects with her sister. She did not quilt then but she loved her grandmothers quilts.
Suzie says she loves romantic, florals and toile (twall) fabrics and is thinking about making a toile quilt soon. She has her eye on some beautiful fabric. Besides making quilts for her young nieces and nephews she wants to make a postage size basket quilt. The most influence on Suzie’s quilting is from her instructors Dianna Phillips and Tammy Tinkler. Her favorite quilting books are Around the Block by Judy Hopkins. Suzie said she like the book because Judy took the math out of figuring the block sizes. Suzie’s favorite quilt shops are Linda’s in Davison, Guild Crafters in Berkley and The Door Mouse down in Ohio. All of them feed her passion for fabric.
Susie has a long arm quilting business in her home studio where she does custom, free motion and pentagrams machine quilting. The free motion custom work is Suzie’s passion, she like designing her own motifs. Suzie also hosts classes in beginning quilting and beginning long arm quilting. I think this is a great way to see if you would like to learn to long arm, before you invest in a machine.
Suzie’s other hobbies are rubber stamping, beadwork and making purses and handbags. She live with her husband and her three dogs.

Meet Carolyn Mackaness
Carolyn joined the guild a couple of years ago after moving to Michigan with her son’s family. She is originally from the Pittsburg Pennsylvania area. When she was 7 years old her mother started teaching her how to knit, crochet and sew. She did not learn to quilt til much later in life when her daughter made a quilt and she thought she would like to learn quilting. Carolyn’s learned how to quilt by reading books by Eleanor Burns and Judy Martin book. Her quilt encyclopedia are Judy’s books, Ultimate Quilt Block Patterns and Scraps, Blocks and Quilts.
Carolyn says she does not have a particular style of quilting and if you were to see the body of her work you would agree. Carolyn does have a fondness for Japanese fabrics, even though she does not feel she makes Japanese style quilts. Carolyn says she has more quilt tops then finished quilts. She has done applique, piecing and quilt-as-you-go, she loves learning new techniques. Carolyn’s next quilting challenge is to learn origami quilting techniques and make 3-dimensional embroidery blocks inspired by Pricilla Hillman’s bears and mice stories. Carolyn says she has been admiring the workmanship of Sylvia Helper ( Gathering Gal at Elaine’s Quilty Shop) and wants to try her hand at designing some of her own blocks, using similar techniques.
